Leading with care
This Good Care Month, we're recognising the dedicated staff who make up our teams and deliver compassionate care. We spoke to Paige, the Deputy Manager at Bradbury House care home, about her commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of our residents.
Paige's role and her vision of good care
Paige's role as Deputy Manager is varied and important for the welcoming atmosphere at Bradbury House. She plays a key part in supporting the Manager, overseeing our care team, and ensuring high standards of person-centred care are consistently met. From putting together individual care plans to supervising staff and creating a welcoming atmosphere, her leadership is important for Bradbury House’s success.
When asked what "good care" means to her, Paige's answer was clear. It's about "putting the residents first and ensuring that all care delivered is person-centred and meaningful to each resident, showing you understand their needs."
Making Bradbury House a home
Paige's favourite thing about working at Bradbury House are the residents themselves. She enjoys the daily interactions, hearing their unique stories, and contributing to their wellbeing. Her connection with them is clear in how she personally helps provide good care, making sure she has "time to spend with the residents and chat to them." She takes care to "get to know the new residents so they feel comfortable and supported here at Bradbury by all the staff."
Paige leads by example in ensuring residents feel at home. She focuses on personalised care plans tailored to individual needs and preferences, encouraging residents to personalise their rooms. She also makes sure there's a warm, friendly, and respectful atmosphere where residents feel valued and heard – a community where belonging grows.
Her most memorable moment at Bradbury House was a resident's 100th birthday celebration where everyone came together to make it a special day. She says "these moments of shared happiness make her work rewarding."

"This is a very rewarding career, and seeing the difference you can make day to day, even by simple things really makes me feel proud to be working with vulnerable people who need support. It's about putting the residents first and ensuring that all care delivered is person-centred and meaningful to each resident, showing you understand their needs. It really solidifies the fact that you have helped make a difference to their loved ones when they needed support the most."

A rewarding career in care
Paige is proud to be part of the Abbeyfield team and the wider care sector as she finds satisfaction in making a positive difference in residents' lives, seeing happy residents and creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere at the home. The appreciation families extend for their care and support, particularly during end-of-life stages, also means a great deal to her. As she puts it, "It really solidifies the fact that you have helped make a difference to their loved ones when they needed support the most."
For anyone considering a career in care, Paige's message is simple. "This is a very rewarding career, and seeing the difference you can make day to day, even by simple things really makes me feel proud to be working with vulnerable people who need support." She finds the most rewarding aspect is end-of-life care, knowing she's providing comfort and making a positive difference in those crucial final stages.
What Good Care Month means to Paige
Even in her leadership role, Paige's priority remains the residents, and she says her biggest challenge after transitioning to management is "making sure I have time to still spend with the residents." She makes time each week to sit and catch up with them, a simple yet effective way to ensure those important relationships remain strong.
For Paige, Good Care Month holds special meaning, as she says "it offers much-needed recognition for care workers." While she acknowledges that care workers can sometimes be unappreciated, she firmly believes this initiative can "make a positive difference to the public perception of care by highlighting the important support care staff provide every day."
Paige's dedication and compassionate leadership exemplify the excellent, resident-first care that defines Bradbury House.
