Celebrating 70 years of care, compassion and community
2026 marks a very special milestone in Abbeyfield’s story. 70 years ago, our founder Richard Carr-Gomm, registered Abbeyfield as a charity, setting in motion a simple but powerful idea: that older people deserve companionship, dignity and a place to feel truly at home.
This year, as we celebrate 70 years of Abbeyfield, we’re reflecting on where we began, how far we’ve come, and the difference we continue to make in the lives of older people across the UK and beyond.

Celebrating our story
From a single idea to a network of supportive homes and communities, Abbeyfield’s journey is one of care, compassion and community. Our anniversary is a chance to reflect on what we’ve achieved and to thank the people who make it possible.

The people at the heart of Abbeyfield
Abbeyfield’s impact would not be possible without the extraordinary people who bring our values to life every day. We’re shining a light on what makes Abbeyfield special - our residents, the dedication of our staff and volunteers, our families, friends and supporters, and the strong community partnerships that support everything we do. Every chapter of our journey has been shaped by the people at its heart.

Looking to the future
As we celebrate 70 years, we’re also looking ahead. Our commitment remains the same: to innovate and evolve to meet the needs of future generations and continue to support older people to live fulfilling, connected lives for the next 70 years and beyond.
